Ash Ledger is owned and operated by Alexander Joseph("Ash Ledger", "we", "us"). For the personal data described in this notice, Alexander Joseph acts as the data controller.

2. Personal Data We Collect

  • Account data — email address, login credentials, display name.
  • Profile and journal content — cigars logged, tasting notes, ratings, photos you upload.
  • Usage and telemetry — pages visited, features used, errors, approximate device and browser information.
  • Device identifiers and IP address — captured for security, fraud prevention, and basic analytics.
  • Support messages — anything you send us through support channels.
  • Payment-related identifiers — customer and subscription IDs returned by our payments provider. We do not receive or store your card details.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • Create and operate your account and provide the Service.
  • Generate AI pairing recommendations and tasting feedback from your inputs.
  • Protect the Service against fraud, abuse, and security threats.
  • Improve features, performance, and reliability.
  • Provide customer support.
  • Send transactional emails (account, billing, security). We do not send marketing email without your consent.

4. Legal Bases

  • Performance of a contract — to provide the Service you signed up for.
  • Legitimate interests — to keep the Service secure, prevent fraud, and improve it.
  • Consent — where required, such as for non-essential cookies or marketing.
  • Legal obligation — to comply with applicable law.

5. Who We Share Data With

  • Merchant of Record — Paddle.com: for the sale of subscriptions, payment processing, subscription management, invoicing, and tax compliance. See Paddle's Privacy Notice.
  • Hosting and database: cloud infrastructure providers that host the application, database, and file storage.
  • AI providers: third-party AI model providers process the content of your AI pairing requests to generate recommendations.
  • Analytics and error monitoring: limited usage and error data is shared with operational tooling providers.
  • Professional advisers: legal, accounting, and similar advisers when required.
  • Authorities: where required by law or to enforce our Terms.

6. International Transfers

Your data may be processed in countries outside your own, including the United States and the European Economic Area. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal, tax, and accounting requirements. You can delete your account at any time, after which we will delete or anonymize your User Content within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time. Users in the UK/EEA have rights under the GDPR and the right to complain to a supervisory authority. We aim to respond to requests within one month. 9. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and role-based authorisation. No system is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Cookies

We use cookies and local storage that are essential to running the Service (authentication, preferences, draft entries). We may use a small amount of analytics storage to understand usage. We do not currently run advertising cookies. You can manage cookies through your browser settings.

11. Children

The Service is intended for users of legal smoking age in their jurisdiction. It is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

12. Changes

We may update this Notice from time to time. Material changes will be communicated in-app or by email where appropriate.
